Good website. . . I didn’t know anything about cement tiles. It’s cool to read about the history and I didn’t know that it is what Gaudi was using. The hand-made factor is especially appealing. They would create a focal point for the whole house. It’s quite expensive though. . . especially because of the pricey sealers, thin set, and grout needed.

If it’s concrete you want, but with a less expensive alternative, you can look into exposing and refinishing the existing concrete floor in the basement too. There are ways to acid wash it and stain it in lots of cool ways. It’s a very hip, modern, and practical approach.

My only concern with that is getting the floor flat. The majority of the thin set from the tile I ripped up in the bathroom stuck to the floor rather then the tiles and it was covered in ridges. I could potentially grind it down or do a self-leveling cement, but I’m not sure it would look great for the amount of work it would take.
